Question by : my colon doesn’t work!?
Around 3 weeks ago I made some brownies and did eat a lot of them, like 10, just after eating them i felt my stomach weird, I could feel the hard mass by pressing a little my stomach. I couldn’t get to poop for 3 days and I felt the hard mass all the way through my intestines by touch, just some days after that I started feeling bad again and I took milk of magnesia and it worked perfectly I had like a week or two without symptoms. Then again I started with some problems, my stool turned very thin a couple of times and then after that I could just poop very little and narrow pieces of stool, I went to the doctor and told him i thought it could be a fecal impaction, he prescribed me microlax and Pinaverium, it didn’t work. I still have the feeling that I have some stuck mass in my bowels but that’s not for sure, because before having the problem I took senosides for a long time, sometimes exceeding the dose and even the first days with the problem I took another overdose of senosides. But I’m really not sure what could it be and I’m desperate, the worst part is the lower back pain it makes me desperate, I also have had a lot of gas. Could somebody tell me what could it be, I don’t know if it’s Colon Cancer, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Fecal Impaction, Hemorroids, Polyp. This is really terrible and I don’t have money right now for another doctor.

Look carefully at the labels on the foods you eat. You need fiber every day. Recommended 20 to 35 grams a day. That’s the first thing I would do.
Add wide variety of vegetables, not just one kind.

Question by babygirl_07_677: how can I work with my IBS?
I have a severe level of irritable bowel syndrome. The doctors have not been able to find anything that stops or helps even a little bit for my symptoms. I have alternating D/C and I vomit up to 8 times a day. A change in diet and exercise has not helped me. I also experience sharp pain in my stomach that feels like I am being stabbed. I have been given many pain meds like percocet and such in pill form but none of it works as I have a resistance to medications of all sorts. (No I was not addicted to drugs in the past my genetics are just weird that way). Because my symptoms can not be controlled I have had to drop out of college as professors did not let me make a homework and such if I was taken to the ER. I also have a hard time holding a job because employers do not like me getting sick. does anyone have any advice?
Thank you for the Metamucil idea but I cannot take that as I run a line where I go back and forth between D and C. If I have to much fiber or anything that could alter either one of those it throws me to the worst extent of D or C. But thank you for the idea!

Google “the second brain”

Your “gut” has a concentration of neurotransmitters. Talk to your doctor about the possibility of SSRI’s.

I have IBS (albeit not as severe as you). When I was put on SSRI’s for anxiety/depression, my IBS subsided.

Question by Reaper G: Do Lactose Intolerant Pills work for IBS sufferers?
I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which isn’t good when I or anybody with IBS digests or eats dairy products (Milk, Cheese, Yogurt, etc.). So does a Lactose Intolerant pill help relieve IBS with respect to dairy foods?

Best answer:

Answer by rajb1037
Well, IBS and lactose intolerance are different things.

If you have gas/loose stools after eating dairy, it could either be due to lactose intolerance or your IBS. It depends on whether your symptoms are being caused by one or the other.. it’s possible your problems could be from one or both.

So if it’s lactose intolerance (you can still have it even if you have IBS), it may be helpful. But dairy products are discouraged entirely if you have IBS, even if you aren’t lactose intolerant.

IBS is an iffy diagnosis. It often means the Doc just isn’t sure what’s causing your problems, so figuring out the exact cause of your problems (which foods/combinations, what times, activities, etc.) will be helpful in the long run. If your problems are only with dairy products, for example, it’s likely you’re actually just lactose intolerant (a common misdiagnosis).

Question by Omar H: Does Amitiza work for men?
After seeing several doctors for years, we determined that my constant stomach pain was due to Irritable Bowel Syndrome. My doctor prescribed Amitiza for me but my insurance provider notified me this was a treatment for women and they would not cover it. I’ve been desperate to find solutions, and I wanted to see if anyone online had any answers or suggestions before I drop some money on this product.

Thanks.

Amitiza is not for just women. Zelnorm (the drug that was taken off the market) was the drug that was only for women.

Amitiza is a chloride channel activator, which allows more fluid to enter the digestive tract, making it less likely for you to get constipated with the IBS.

Your insurance company is wrong. It’s a relatively new drug and there is no generic for it. They just don’t want to pay for it, period. Have the doctor who prescribed it try to get an exception from your insurance provider.

Also, your doctor should have samples of the Amitiza. My doctor gave me over a month’s supply in samples. After the first week, I only had to take it every other day so it lasted almost 2 months. That was almost a year ago and I haven’t had to take anything for constipation since. Doctor says it probably “woke up” my digestive system. I’m hoping I won’t have to use it again until it comes out in generic form LOL
