Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatment

Question by Megan: elderly woman with constant diarrhea/leaking of bowels and raw bottom? Please Help!?
I know this elderly women who for the past couple of years has had chronic diarrhea. Has a diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome. Does not want a colonoscopy done to rule out anything else. This women has diarrhea all day long, everyday. Have tried changing diet as well as lomotil. This womans buttocks is constantly reaaallly raw and it is very painful for her. Have tried countless creams et ointments…over the counter et prescription. Nothing is helping. The doctor has pretty much given up on fixing it (switching docs is not an options in this situation). I know to fix the raw bottom the diarrhea has to be stopped but it that can’t be done I’d at least like to try to help sooth her pain with creams etc. Has anyone known of a similar situation and can help. Any suggestions on treatment?? Any Miracle creams? FYI: the bottom is so raw that there are open areas so the doc has not ok’d analgesic creams/sprays…..not sure if there are any that are ok. Please help, this is really affecting her happiness.

This woman is in desparte need of probiotics in her diet. They come in capsules are available at heatlth food stores and places like CVS and Wal greens one is called Align. You can also use carob powder mixed with milk or sprinkled in yogurt. I would take 2 everyone 4 hours around the clock until it stops. It can not hurt you. As for the raw bottom I would get Desitin like for babies and spread it on there. Good Luck.

The ads pop up every time I log on to Yahoo, always with a fairly decent looking middle aged lady, with a very sad face, and a toilet seat at her side.

Would you be embarassed if your friends recognized her as the IBS lady?

I know I can expect nothing but the most mature and serious answers possible, here.
Obviously no one has seen or remembers “The King” Seinfeld episode.

Question by metz: Help, health deteriorating (headaches, fatigue, muscle pain) and I don’t know why…27 year old woman?
I have recently been diagnosed with having migraines and Irritable bowel syndrome. The medication for the IBS has made me feel a lot better, but, my headaches are driving me crazy! I would say I usually have a headache every day for at least some time. They have recently gotten so bad that I almost considered going to the Emergency room I was so ill. The meds she gave me for migraines make me feel worse and the other med that she gave me a sample of works but is not covered on my insurance. I am also feeling very sore all over. My muscles often “hurt” for no reason, especially, the left side of my neck where it meets my shoulder is constently stiff and painful. I sometimes also feel like I have bruises but have not done anything to bruise myself. Lately I also feel like I’m fighting a losing battle with fatigue as well. I’m wondering if all of these symptoms may actually be connected. I have looked into fibromyalgia but some of the symptoms don’t fit. Any suggestions?
I get plenty of sleep. Mainly because if I don’t I feel even worse. I’ve tried all the over the counter migraine pills and they take a little of the edge off, but, make my stomach so upset that they are not worth it. I’m not sure about clenching teeth or not. I’ve never even thought of that! I am definitely going to look into this option. In general I feel like I’m a pretty healthy person, healthy weight, exercise a few times weekly, fresh fruits/veggies, only a few drinks per week, etc.

For the migraine try using some over counter drugs like Excedrin migraine or Tylenol migraine.
