I’m on antibiotics which kills bacteria. Should I try to replenish the good bacteria in my body by drinking probiotic drinks? Or is there even a point since they’ll all probably be killed off anyway?

I recently used Probiotics pills for my digestive system, however, I haven’t had a bowel movement since taking them and it’s been a day and a half exactly the same time I haven’t had a bowel movement. What’s going on? I thought that Probiotics was supposed to help the digestive system.

I am going to be on a pretty hefty amount of antibiotics for the next month or so (Doxycycline 200 mg twice a day). I have heard that I should take probiotics and plain yogurt along with this. I’ve also heard that I shouldn’t drink milk an hour before or after I take the antibiotic because it could diminish its effectiveness.
Any other advice that will help me through this?

That’s a question for a pharmacist. Not something that you should ask here. Lithium, like other prescriptions, when taken with certain other products can have side effects. In this case, probiotics are considered to be a dietary supplement. I copied this from WebMD:
When using dietary supplements, keep in mind the following:
Like conventional medicines, dietary supplements may cause side effects, trigger allergic reactions, or interact with prescription and nonprescription medicines or other supplements you are taking. A side effect or interaction with another medicine or supplement may make other health conditions worse.
Dietary supplements may not be standardized in their manufacturing. This means that how well they work or any side effects they cause may differ among brands or even within different lots of the same brand. The form you buy in health food or grocery stores may not be the same as the form used in research.
The long-term effects of most dietary supplements, other than vitamins and minerals, are not known. Many dietary supplements are not used long-term.
I hope this help answer your questions.
