Question by : what’s happening with my stomach? is this really IBS?
First of all, I’m 20 years old. I’ve been very worried ever since me and my boyfriend got a little more intimate (July 28 i think) and of course, since it was my first time doing that kind of thing, I’ve never been involved in sex related acts before: foreplay in this case (we are both virgins). I did research on how dangerous that could be, so that day I tried to be attentive and be care full with the things we did (kissing and oral sex not more than that). The thing that worried me was that he masturbated in front of me, i was sitting on a bed and he was standing in front of me. I noticed he held everything in his hand when he finished and later he went to the bathroom and washed his hands. Then three days after that I started to feel a weird sensation in my lower stomach (like if there was gas), I started to worry a lot because of the thoughts of being pregnant from that, so 15 days later I asked my grandmother to take me to the hospital for the help of a gynecologist. I did blood test, sonography and urine test and the all came out well, the only thing was that my urine as a bit darker because I needed to drink more water. My gynecologist told me it was probably an infection and gave me something for that, but the sensation didn’t go away so I didn’t know what to think, until I got my period on August. Later I went to a gastroenterologist and she told me that I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, she told me to watch out on what I eat and gave me some pills for that but the sensation didn’t go away and I worried again. I hopefully got my period on September and October also but I noticed they were short but heavy, so that can’t be implantation if I were pregnant (since I’ve read it’s brown or pink but my blood was bright red). I still have that sensation (November 2nd) and it’s getting worse since I feel my lower stomach it’s a little hard. I don’t know if I’m getting this symptoms for freaking out about being pregnant or if i’m for real or it’s just IBS… can somebody help me know what’s this?

Answer by Dandelion trust me i have anxiety disorder about my health and you can give yourself all sorts of things with worry. i promise you you are NOT pregnant so you can stop worrying about that.
yes worry does give you ibs and since this started since you started worrying i am pretty sure that is what you have! i have given it myself lots of times. nothing really works for ibs except stop worrying, relax and carry on with your life. dont give it a second thought and before you know it, all will be ok. easier said than done..i, know.
you should prob get checked for an anxiety disorder also

Question by Veronica A: Chronic chest and back pain around the lungs and tingly fingers. What’s wrong with me?
2 months ago, I experienced flu-like symptoms. Around this time, I started developing chest (tightness which causes shortness of breath) and back pain (stabbing, aching) that is not muscular. The chest pain location varies from my upper and lower portion of both sides of my chest. Sometimes it is right over my heart. Sometimes the pain appears to originate around my sternum. I have been experiencing these symptoms for over 2 months and they have gotten progressively worse within and across days. I do not have Lyme’s disease, gallbladder disease, acid reflux, or abnormal CBC (except low vitamin D) levels. Recently I have developed a transient slightly tingly sensation in my right fingers following tightness around my armpit (auxiliary?) area which triggers my fingers to turn cold. I also have irritable bowel syndrome. What could all this mean? PLEASE HELP!!

Answer by Amy C you need to go to the doctor so they can run some tests….i mean it could be something as simple as a muscle pull that just hasn’t had time to properly heel and therefore is getting worse and causing new symptoms or something as bad as a mass in or around you lungs pressing on a nerve which is causing the tingling in your fingers….all you can do is go and get it checked out. Go to the ER if you need to, I’m sure if you tell them you are having chest pains and tingling in the fingers you’ll be seen right away.

Question by swarley92: What’s wrong with me?
I am a 18 year old male who eats healthy and works out by both cardio exercises and weight lifting regularly.
Lately, for like the last month I was experiencing a dull ache in my neck, it wasn’t like a sharp pain, more of a strain but it seems to be going away. There was also some pain in my ear canal that ear drops seemed to cure well. I blamed the pain on a strained muscle from extensive working out even though it lasted for like 3 weeks. Is that possible?
But my problem now is this weird feeling in my abdomen. It sometimes exist in my lower right abdomen or in my upper middle – left area. Its not a pain or a ache really it’s hard to explain, it’s like a tight feeling or pressure. I also have been fairly gassy lately and there seems to be a lot of gargling in my stomach. It doesn’t always occur but it seems to last a while. Like one example was earlier today I was playing guitar and after I quit I felt this tight feeling in my upper left abdomen and its pretty unexplainable to me.
So I’m trying to figure out what is causing this as I have looked around and haven’t found much, the symptoms range from, strained muscles, to irritable bowel syndrome to pancreatic cancer (which really scares me). Can someone help me with my problem? Thanks!!

Answer by holla at a sista! What kinds of food are you eating? Keep a food diary of everything you eat and a “pain” journal of every attack you suffer. Note the time, what activity brought it on, etc. Perhaps you have developed an allergy to wheat or dairy. Take the extra few minutes to keep a log of your body’s intake and reaction to the food, and at least then you might get a general idea of what is causing your problem.
OR
You mentioned a neck problem… By chance, you might have a herniated disc pressing on a nerve that relates to your stomach/chest area. Believe it or not, a herniated disc in the neck or upper back area could be affecting your nerves.

Question by rz: I have very bad smelling gas. What’s the deal?? Do I need probiotics?
Ever since I’ve been married I have had mind blowing bad smelling gas. I thought it might be my birthcontrol so I’m off of that (1 and a half weeks). I am a vegetarian and eat pretty much all veggie and lentils etc. I eat whole grain pastas, yogurt, milk and cereals. I have been eating yoplait yo every moring to try to get things going. I don’t really “go” in quality amounts…I only go once a day. It seems like coffee is the only thing that can really get me to go. I drink plenty of water and exercise. I thought that since I smell sooooo bad( very sulfery and hot sorry kinda gross) maybe there is a bacterial imbalance. What do I do!? I’m making my husband mad it’s not funny anymore!
I didn’t start eating letils until recently..so it’s something else…Obviously the things that make it worse are when I eat broc., cauliflower and red peppers but that makes the normal bad smell even worse…

Answer by Lisa Marie It’s the lentils, darling! Haven’t you ever heard that about lentils? Probably the worst thing to eat if you don’t want gas!
