Question by : If you have really bad IBS does it make you lose weight?
Does Irritable Bowel Syndrome make you lose weight?

Answer by BabeHart
Weight loss could certainly be a symptom, considering food consumed may pass through their system faster (much like someone using laxatives to lose weight)…it doesn’t burn fat, but will reduce the amount of calories (and nutrition) the body absorbs from what is consumed…basically, it could lead to malnutrition if the person with the condition wasn’t able to consume enough that their body could use/absorb…

Question by tough life: does celexa cause weight gain or weight loss?
i was put on 10 mg of lexapro by gastroentrologist for 4 months and it did not improve my mental health or irritable bowel syndrome.
The psychiatrist then said i should change to 20 mg of celexa for some time and later he would put me on 40 mg of celexa.
Will I gain weight? I did not gain any weight while using lexapro for 4 months. Also will the medication improve IBS?
chilady: I have Bentyl at home but don’t take it because on internet i read many bad things about it. But i admit Bentyl is great help for me.
I am 31 year old male. It is common for IBS patients to be put on SSRI’s.

If it didn’t do anything before, maybe it will improve your mental health with a higher dose.
I was on Lexapro once before and it made my sadness go away. I felt very happy. Maybe a little too happy at times.
But it didn’t cause any weight gain back then. But I heard it caused someone online to gain weight. In fact, this person said so yesterday.
But yeah. I don’t think it causes weight gain normally, but who knows?

Question by Brittany S: How can I gain weight fast?
I am 13 years old and I have a problem with my stomach. I get mysterious pains in my abdomen. I have been going to Children’s Hospital for testing and my doctor has narrowed down the diagnosis to either gastritis or irritable bowel syndrome. I would like to know how to gain without eating a LOT because I just can’t do that.

Question by Sally: What should I eat to get back to a healthy weight?
I’m 18, 5 foot 2 and weigh 6 stone 7. I am well aware this is underweight.
For the last year I have suffered with irritable bowel syndrome (constipation end). I suffered awful pain, bloating and wind every time I ate and was also constipated. I have been diagnosed and put on a high fibre diet with fibre supplements. This has helped a little although I still have some very bad days.
All the problems really put me off eating a lot of food at once to try to reduce bloating, and when I hadn’t ‘been’ for several days and was in pain it was hard to want to add more to the system! This has resulted in a lot of weight loss. I am not happy at all – I can’t even sit on a hard chair comfortably as there’s no flesh on me!
I am wondering if anyone can offer any advice on what sort of food I could introduce into my diet that will hopefully not worsen my IBS and how much I should be eating in order to get back up to over 7 stone. I am a busy university student and I need more energy!

its not so much what as how much. Watch your caloric intake, and make sure you exert more calories per day than you consume. Stick to lean proteins, raw veggies and fruits, and whole grains as opposed to starches.

ok i used to have a major junk food problem too, and was about 15 lbs over weight, i ate junk food constatly and i thought i didnt have any will power also weight loss isnt about will power its about making good decisions and sticking with them. i promised my self that i would not eat anything with added sugar or white flour, or anything that was not whole grain, and no dairy products. i lost the 15 lbs in a lil over 2 months. you really just have to make a decision and stick with it, as your parents for some help, just be all like im trying to get healthier for basketball so tell them to make healthier dinners, and go to the store with them and and get healthy lean meats fruits and vegetables and nuts and beans. ask for there support and make sure to always pack a nutritious lunch, cafeteria food isnt healthy, also what i fould was helpful when cravings hit was to go do something to get your mind off them and keep telling your self in your head i want to loss weight i want to lose weight. your exercise routine loks like its already covered from basketball, but when that stops try to run a few days a week or at least walk, 20minutes of walking is way better than watching tv. also i would recomend al ultimate goal of 115. dont count calories, it stresses you out, what i did is stopper eating at 730 and made sure i ate slow and stopped once i was full. If my adive does not help you need to talk to your parents and ask them if you can get a personal dietion of nutritionist to help you get started, but really all you need to do it promise your self that you wont ever eat junk food again, and the pounds will be falling off.
