Question by big_bear: I have stomach problems – treatments and advice?
For the last three or four days I have had stomach problems.
For the first two days, I had diarrhea (with loose stools) and a fever. The diarrhea and fever have died down after two days, but I still have watery/loose stools. From what I know, there is no blood in it.

As far as I know, I don’t have any other symptoms, and I just want to know, is it just a case of a stomach bug, or irritable bowels syndrome, or something much more serious?

Is there anything I can do to cure it without prescription medication?

Hard to tell if just a bug at this stage. Give it a little longer and see how you feel. If you have IBS you’ll know it.

Drink plenty of water and stick to a bland diet until your symptoms improve. If they don’t clear up best to see your doctor

I hope you’re feeling better soon

Question by Sue W: Our tabby was just diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. Has anyone used homeopthic drugs or treatments?
Our Luther appeared perfectly healthy but was losing weight. He did have liver disease which seemed to have been cured. Because of the weight lose we took him to our Vet. He thought is could be irritable bowel syndrome and he suggested an endoscopy. While in the hospital as part of the pre surgical procedure Lou had a chest xray which showed a mass on the lung. A CT scan then showed several more tumors. It appears to be metastatic cancer but we are waiting for confirmation from the biopsy that was taken. My husband and I are devastated. We visited our little baby in the hospital and is was so difficult. His leg was still taped from where they had the iv and he was shaking. Luther is home now and is slowly returning to his usual self. You see, he had never been away from home and it was traumatic. I’m trying to research as much as possible before see our Vet and the oncologist. Any advice, treatments, would be so very much appreciated. We love this little guy.

I am so sorry about this. Having lost a dearly loved pet to cancer I know how terrible this is. Unfortunately, my dog lived less than a week after his diagnoses because his cancer was so advanced. I want to stress that his was NOT lung cancer but lympho sarcoma so don’t judge your situation by mine. As long as your baby still has quality of life then he has hope. And I can tell that he has very loving and caring humans that will do everything they can for him. Sometimes the only thing we have left to do is to ease their suffering but I do wish you the best of luck. I don’t have any answers but wanted to say that you will all be in my prayers. I hope you get good news from the specialists.

Question by a-net: recommended diet/supplements/alt. treatments for bipolar disorder?
my bf has been diagnosed as bipolar. I know it’s a very difficult situation to be in but i’m extremely patient (we’ve been together 3 yrs. and we knew he was bipolar) and willing to help him find something that will help keep him stable.
he also has irritable bowel syndrome.

do you know of anything that may work/help?

Answer by Doctor J
Look for the underlying condition that can cause all of his health problems!

For example, Celiac Disease is a common condition that is rarely diagnosed by medical doctors (because it is a nutritionally related disorder – medical docs still have almost NO training in nutrition). Celiac disease can cause mood disorders, “IBS”, etc.

Other possibilities include:

Vitamin/mineral deficiencies (Magnesium, folate, B12, etc.)

Essential Fatty acid deficiencies

Heavy metal toxicities (lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.)

Intestinal Dysbiosis

Leaky Gut syndrome

Chemical or Environmental sensitivities

It might be wise to find a health care professional trained in: 1) nutrition, 2 environmental disease, and/or 3) “functional medicine”.

Best wishes and good luck.

Question by peanutdurof: Treatments for….?
Okay please help me! I just got back from the ER with my 4 year old daughter. You see a few days ago my daughter wasn’t feeling well so i took her to our doctor. She was diagnosed with the flu. A day later i noticed she had a rash i took her back to the doctor and he thought it was still the flu. I knew it wasn’t so i took her to about 5 other doctors. They all gave different diagnoses so i took her to the ER. This is what she has: flu, measles, yeast infection, and irritable bowel syndrome. Home Remedies or treatments to help with these? Thank you and I’m sure my daughter thanks you too.

Question by Truth: My wife has IBS and has tried deleting coffee, gum, booze et al from her diet to no avail any new treatments??
IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, diet, habits,

As a pharmacists with IBS, I can tell you that fiber is the most important thing to look at. It can correct the constipating kind AND diarrhea kind of IBS. Stay away from cheese and laxatives(except for bulk fiber laxatives, such as Metamucil, Citrucel, Benefiber, and Fibercon)

If considering medications, you have to know which form of IBS she has. There are new medications for the constipating kind, such as Zelnorm and Lotronex(not recommended), as well as very old medications for the diarrhea kind of IBS, such as dicyclomine, Immodium, and about 20 other medications.
