Question by Juanita S: Should adults take a Colostrom supplement?
I was told that taking probiotics like acidophilus wouldn’t be very beneficial because you need Colostrum in your gut for them to live and grow. Otherwise the healthy bacteria you take will just die. Has anyone heard of this or have any wisdom on this?

The use of acidophiles is very beneficial. You may also use yogurt that has live cultures in it. Than you benefit from the calcium as well. Watch the sugar content. Do not use fat free.

Question by Sue T: Is it safe to supplement with Calcium Butyrate?
Hi,
I continuously show low amounts of Butyrate on my Compreshensive Digestive System Analysis.

I want to increase my Butyrate levels . . is it safe to take the supplement?

Is there a better way to increase butyrate?

I have taken probiotics but they methylate mercury in my gut and I get lots of neuro and eye problems from them.

Thanks, Sue T

It doesn’t seem to be used particularly commonly.

The best ways to increase butyrate production in the gut are to increase consumption of soluble fiber such as fructooligosaccharide (FOS) and increase intake of resistant starches, which are a component of most vegetables.

The 2nd dietary source , the only direct source in the diet is from butter, which contains 3% butyrate.

What do you think? Answer below!

I’m a little skeptical about taking them. The majority of us already have all the good bacteria in our gastrointestinal tract that we really need, so there’s no reason to have to supplement that. Now, if you’re taking antibiotics, than that’s a different story. Antibiotics can kill off our good bacteria as well as the bad, so probiotics (yogurt’s often recommended) are a good thing during antibiotic therapy.
