Question by gizmoe27: can someone help me with a stomach problem?
I’ve had severe stomach pains for years. I’ve seen doctors about it, but they never seem to make it better. Everytime i leave my house, my stomach seems to hurt. I’ll be completely fine, but as soon as i need to go somewhere, it hurts. This happens even when i dont eat food, so it’s not how i eat. Even if i know i have to go somewhere soon, i will try to go to the bathroom, but i cant, but as soon as i have to leave i feel like i have to crap again. This is a huge epidemic that’s been bothering me my whole life. I’m not depressed, and i dont have irritable bowel syndrome. Can someone help?

It sounds like Agoraphobia. Try seeing a shrink.

Question by Lucy: Can someone help me with my health issues?
18yrs old, female, 110lbs, not sexually active. Here’s what’s wrong:

I’ve been feeling very odd lately. For about 2 weeks or so, I just feel extremely exhausted. I am getting 8-9 hours of sleep every night, and sleep through the night with no trouble. I am not under any real amount of stress. I go to school 5 days a week 1hr 30 minutes every other day, and 3hrs every other day. I have no homework to make me stressful. I do not think I am depressed because, well, I don’t feel depressed! I’m just so tired. My body and mind are tired. I am having horrible migraines about 2 times a day, usually when I wake up, and once in the evenings. I usually take some Ibruprofen for it, but it doesn’t help. I try not to take lots of pain killers though, because they upset my stomach. I have also been getting the feeling of over heating a lot. Could be related to anxiety, but I don’t feel anxious or nervous when it happens. I describe them as “Hot Flashes” but my mother says I couldn’t possibly have them because I am only 18.

I am going to the doctor next week, but would like to see if anyone could possibly have some suggestions of what’s wrong, or what I could talk to my doctor about (like possible things that could be wrong.) I’m sure there are a million things that could be wrong, since my symptoms are so common, but I just want to check all options.

PLEASE NO RUDE ANSWERS.

My current diagnosed medical problems are: (incase they could somehow be related, which I doubt they are).

-IBS- Irritable bowel syndrome
-Stomach Spasms
-Digestive Disorder (Food does not digest slowly enough)
-Allergic to dairy, red sauces, most spices.

I am currently on medicine for the first 3, and have a special diet for the last one. I have never experienced any unusual side effects from them.

If you would like to talk more, or know more or have anything else relating to my issues, please email me at silvercat414@gmail.com

Thank you.
Yes I am on birth control, the Depo-Provera shot. I have been on it for a total of 7 months.

You could have an iron deficiency, but also a hormonal imbalance. Are you currently taking any birth control? The iron deficiency could stem from your digestive disorders, which you could also be treating with probiotics.

If you are on birth control then I think the hot flashes would be associated with this. If possible, discontinue use and see how you feel. Synthetic hormones are very bad over the long term, and in the short term as well because of all these side effects they can cause. I know most doctors won’t even prescribe them to friends and family.

Question by Anna Reed: What can cause someone to have have a singler maroon coloured stool?
I hate too talk or even write about pooping, but I went to the loo yesterday and found that I dumped a strange coloured stool. It was a bit darker than normal and had slight maroon tinge. I know it can be a sign of many conditions like:
•Diverticulitis
•Vascular malformation
•Intestinal infection
•Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
•Tumor
•Polyps
•Colon Cancer
•Bleeding Ulcer
•Gastritis
•Esophageal variances (e.g. heavy consumption of alcohol for long periods)
•A tear in the esophagus

But I never had this coloured poop before and it is already going back to normal. When I went to the loo this morning, only parts of it were that colour with rest of it being a normal brown. I’m not a doctor, but I think that if the colour was due to bleeding or any other condition, the whole lot would be like that and it won’t go away so quickly. I know that food can also change the colour of poop. When I was a kid I went to South Africa, a VERY long flight. I remember that the airline food made my poop a strange yellow colour, YUCK!! Foods like beat root, meat and red wine can make poop maroon, but the only food I ate recently that I think would make poop that colour is carrots and sausage. Coz it’s summer down here, my family has been having a lot of bbq’s and a diet high in protein can also make poop that colour, but I haven’t had any sausage or steak for four days so I don’t think it would be that. Can changing one’s diet to more alkaline foods cause poop to change colour? Until recently, I have had very mild stomach cramps and a bit of gas (gross, I know!) even though I eat plenty of fiber and I’m not constipated. I have read that high acid foods can cause this, so I changed my diet a bit and I haven’t had any cramps since. I’m not worried, coz this was seems to be a once off and it is definitely not a chronic problem, I just think it’s strange. XD

Question by my_luv_is_for_you: Someone with similar symptoms please help…?
This all started I would say on june 9th of last year. Anyway, I have a lot of symptoms similar to IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Sometimes I’ll be constipated or have diarrhea (usually constipation). And after I go, after not going for about a day or two, the stool will be hard which causes me to bleed (it’s pretty painful too). Anyway, sometimes I’ll get mucus in my stool as well. I get a lot of heartburn. And I’ll sometimes get cramps, not really severe though. When I eat, I’ll have to use the bathroom about 30 minutes later, like an urgent feeling. Or I’ll eat a small meal and feel completely full. Other times, I can eat and eat and eat and it won’t affect me. Anyway, I noticed that while on my period, it gets more painful. I’ll get this extremeely sharp stabbing pain in my lower abdomen and in my rectum. Sometimes it feels like it radiates a little into my back and a little into my thighs. It kind of hurts to have a BM. My periods have been heavier than usual too. I also noticed
That when on my period, it burns/stings a little when I urinate. I heard that IBS and Endometriosis can mimic eachother. So I was wondering if anybody with one of these conditions or has these symptoms could tell me what they think. I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist on the 21st of february.

Sorry if my story was a little too detailed.
Thanks!
Just so you know, not sure if this will help or anything, But I’m not sexually active. So it’s not an std or anything.

Question by Army Bride: Can someone answer my questions?
Okay, I’m going to see a doctor hopefully next week (their computers are having trouble setting up appointments so its walk ins for a while). I think I might have IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I’ve read it can be caused by stress, diet, and a few other things. There hasn’t been much lately I CAN eat that doesn’t give me gas and cramps (and if its really bad… diarrhea). Plus I’ve been under a lot of stress in my personal life and these specific problems won’t just “blow over” anytime soon…
1a. What medications do they use to treat this? I’d prefer not having to run for pills when I’m already in pain and stuck to the toilet.
1b. Will the medication interfere with birth control and if I stop it when I want kids will coming down from taking it for a while be hard?
2. Since I’m only 18 will my doctor even take my claim seriously? I don’t know if this is an age specific disease but I’ve been having problems like this on and off for over a year.
3. Does anyone else have this?

The reason people are not answering your questions, is because they are for a doctor to answer, not the general public. But your doctor WILL take you serious. That is his job to. You probably need to change your diet and start excercising. That will solve alot of it and the doctor will tell you the same thing. Good luck and take care of yourself because no one else will do it for you!
