Question by Natalie: Why do small town people shove food at you all the time?
When I visit my bf in his small town and his parents all these people do is have feasts and keep telling me to eat. I realize it is a hospitable thing and probably just the way small towns are with gatherings, but I am on a diet, am a vegetarian and don’t need desserts thrown at me. How do I handle this. I told people sugar makes me break out really bad. I am about ready to tell them that I am a diabetic to make them layoff on the food. I have to work really hard to maintain the weight I am at. My bf has a high metabolism so he can eat and eat. I thought about saying I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, “anything” so they don’t keep saying here have some of this or here try that. Then they stare at you until you eat it. I cross the border into the other state and all they have is steakhouses. A vegetarian is out of place there. It’s cattle and ranches.
btw-I usually have a bowl of cereal, protein bar and a salad, peanuts, almonds, etc. I do vary this, but I eat light and balanced and I work out a lot to keep the weight off.

Question by lauren: small, clear, scaly organism in toilet with loose bowel movement – do I have a parasite!?
I have had constipation and bloating issues for a year and a half – my doctors think I have irritable bowel syndrome. After passing a small, loose bowel movement today, I noticed what appeared to be a small, translucent, scaly organism (appeared similar to a mini mini shrimp or something along those lines?) with small antennae in the toilet bowl. This is the first time anything like this has occurred and I am freaked out. I have a doctor’s appointment lined up, but this is grossing me out – do I have some sort of parasitic infection?!

ETA: I did have some yellowish diarrhea the day before yesterday. Have not been out in the sun.

Question by mdGreg C: Since the Target of “Probiotics” is the Colon, Could Enemas With a Small Amount of Culture -?
-(Diluted Appropriately) Be Recommended Occasionally?
Would you Expect Any Positive Effect On UC or IBS?
Thanks Swamy, it is Certainly Unpleasant to Think About, but people With the Above Conditions Will Probably Be Willing to Undergo Such Unpleasantness, for Some Relief. I Read One Proposed Mechanism for UC is Hydrogen Sulfide Gas Production:
From Wikipedia:
Alternative theories
Levels of sulfate-reducing bacteria tend to be higher in persons with ulcerative colitis. This could mean that there are higher levels of hydrogen sulfide in the intestine. An alternative theory suggests that the symptoms of the disease may be caused by toxic effects of the hydrogen sulfide on the cells lining the intestine.[16][17] It may be caused by occlusions in the capillaries of the subepithelial linings, degenerated fibers beneath the mucosa and infiltration of the lamina propria with plasma cells.
Swamy, Assuming the Above has a Lot of Merit, Could a Phage Targeting Sulfidogen Bacteria and the Enemas Cited Above, Be Recommended?
Thanks Rob, I Suppose that if There Were a Straightfoward Solution, it Would Have Already Been Discovered, Just Thinking Some Things Might Not Have Been Attempted.

request palyn P : kombucha bottles, often small colony size of probiotics quarter …? Sometimes it seems like a little jelly it is. If you want the masses to drink along with everyone else? Strands of probiotics do not bother me at all, but the table makes me raise an eyebrow. best answer:
response Honest Abe Kombucha fermented tea, produced from a single colony of bacteria and yeast, sugar and black or green tea . The resulting fermented liquid containing vinegar, vitamins and many other chemical compounds. In the “floaties” as a “mother” (the remnants of the colony, which will begin in the fermentation), and healthy to consume is essentially tasteless and in my experience. Enjoy!
