Question by Jinnie Lee: I’m on long term antibiotics, should I take any probiotics?
I have been experiencing long term continuous urinary tract infections and I went to my urologist. He couldn’t find a problem, after prescribing me Macrobid 200 mg for 2 weeks and then conducting a cystoscopy. So he’s putting me on a few months of Macrodantin 50 mg. Should I buy some probiotic pills or should I just let the antibiotics do its work? What do you think about eating Activia for a while? I just don’t want any problems after taking antibiotics for a while.

First he should have done a urine culture to make sure the bacteria are susceptible to Macrobid. Alot of these E-coli are resistant. Second, I would start on Activa as antibiotics can also kill off the good bacteria in your colon resulting in diarrhea.

Question by Jadeite.: What’s the difference between these two align probiotics?
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Align-Digestive-Care-Probiotic-Supplement-42ct/14237846

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Align-Daily-Probiotic-Supplement-Capsules-28-Count-Box/10977941

I’m not sure which one to get. I know one cost more than the other and then one has more capsules than the other one. But what’s the difference? Which one works more better? I always have gas/bloating (ever since 8th grade, 5-6 years ago) & it never went away. I skipped my senior year so yeah, but I’m doing online school. But what’s the difference? Mature, nice and positive comments please :) thanks.

First off, I take align and they have really helped me. I was in the same situation as you. I dont think there is a difference, I looked up the product on the align website and I think it is just a packaging/coloring difference. They both have the same bacteria (bifantis) in them.
That being said—-if it is $ 39.87 for 42 and 29.44 for 28, you are better off with the bigger box.
I found mine at CVS on a buy one get one 50% off promotion….

Question by dre & ani: Has anyone had problems with dog food with probiotics?
Also, any home remedies I could try to make her feel better?
At our last vet visit, I informed my vet that I had switched my dog from Science Diet to Merrick’s Before Grain. She informed me that that kibble had probiotics and that she’s seen alot of cases with dogs getting diarrhea. So I switched back to Science Diet, but my dog wouldn’t eat it. She’s very picky but she’ll eat the BG, so I switched back. Recently, my dog has developed runny poo/diarrhea. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now off and on. Should I switch her food back to SD? Has anyone else had this problem with dog food with probiotics?
I have transitioned my dog into every food switch. So the diarrhea isn’t because of the switch. We’ve been using BG for months now and we haven’t had a problem until recently.
She’s a cocker spaniel with allergies. That’s also why I switched to BG in the first place.

I can’t say that I have. I always feed my dog Purina: Dog Chow. I haven’t heard a bad case of that diet. However, I do know that there are some poor choice ones out there such as Alpo or other off brands that lack nutrition and make the dog chronically ill. I’m not sure about Science Diet or Merrick’s Before Grain. I do know the first one is quite expensive. If you want more for your money then try going with Purina: Dog Chow. It has never done me wrong and I’ve been using it for years!

Question by Moon: Gallbladder Removed – Good To Take Enzymes & Probiotics?
I had my gallbladder removed almost 2 years ago. My doctor just said “watch what you eat” and sent me on my way. Since that time I have watched what I eat, for instance I can not eat fast food at all, I have to rush to the restroom right away if I do. I try to maintain a high veggie, fruit diet and only eat chicken or seafood if I have meat. So to my question:

I have digestive issues still, it seems like I am constipated all the time, or sometimes I just have to rush to the bathroom. I also get bloated and have gas.

I recently started taking a Pro-biotic and a Digestive Enzyme supplement. Does anyone know if this could help my issues?

The gall bladder is a storage unit for bile. Some people have good bile production and storage/accumulation is not necessary for them, and no problems result from removal of the unit for various reasons. Other people have slow production of bile, needed to digest fats and complex heavy proteins, and if they wind up without a gall bladder, often supplements like papain can help a lot. But fats are to be avoided strenuously! Light vegetable oils in squeaky moderation can be okay, for those thusly afflicted. Careful and observant experimentation will be needed to determine what exact food regimens are how successful or disastrous for any individuals, and those with altered hardware must get very serious about it.
