Question by zipityzipzip: Back pain, neck stiffness, pain under right ribcage worsened with probiotic use?
A few years back I had abdominal pains that were pretty bad but Cat scans showed absolutely nothing. After a few months most of the pain subsided but I have a slight lingering pain around the middle of my spine as well as under my ribcage. Along with this I experienced fatigue and tiredness.

I have no idea what is causing this, But I have noticed that taking probiotics really inflames it. After taking acidophilus ( a good bacteria that is supposed to only be helpful) the back pain gets ridiculously bad and my neck becomes so stiff and achy. I think this is a clue to what is going on inside my body. Reducing sugar intake seems to help, but probiotics makes it much worse.

Sometimes the pain in my back will feel like a bubble, and if I fill up my lungs with air to build up pressure, sometimes the bubbles will pop and the pain will be relieved temporarily. This seems weird, anyone have a clue about whats going on?

Question by Caryn M: Generic or alternative for Align Probiotic?
I don’t have a sure diagnosis yet, but am suspecting IBS. I have been taking Align for a couple months now and in combination with my other medications it seems to be doing the trick. But I am in a jam these days and just cant afford it right now. Is there a cheaper alternative that may be similar? Or a generic maybe? Can anyone recommend any other over the counter probiotics? And yes I have tried activia. No it did not work for me. Thanks!

Answer by Leaky Gut Cure
You need a high quality and wide spectrum probiotic and Activa is not going to fit the bill at all.

You have a few directions you could go depending on how much work you want to do.

1. One of the best over the counter probiotics that you can buy online is a brand called Dr. Ohirra’s. There are plenty of others but that is one that I specifically get great results with in my practice.

2. You could use a variety of fermented foods such as raw sauerkraut, raw milk cultured yogurt, raw milk kefir, raw apple cider vinegar just to name a few. But there is no sense getting or taking store bought (a.k.a. pasteurized) fermented foods because the pasteurization kills the beneficial bacteria.

You can save the most money and make some of these yourself at home if you can find good quality sources.

But that is only half the battle.

There is a lot you can do dietary wise as well that is absolutely necessary for you get the full effects of the probiotics.

You can get more information on the dietary aspects by checking out the free reports from the source link below.

It works to help me feel better! I have spastic stomach and with my crazy schedule, it was always upset. I eat 1 a day and have noticed great results. If anything you will just go back to the way you were before eating it.
