Probiotics are very healthful, and replenish something that you should have in the first place, but our diet and dependance on drugs depletes.
Fermented drink is the best way to keep balance – kefir is a power packed probiotic drink that tastes good too. It is the consistency of a milk shake. We use it for our breakfast granola. It is a food, and not a nouveau miracle cure. The more you get via food, the better. You can also take a quality probiotic pill if you like – make sure it is a refrigerated type, since the bacteria are living.
Anytime you take antibiotics you should be replenishing the good bacteria they destroy with either yogurt, kefir or probiotic supplements – halfway between each antibiotic dosing. Then, you should continue after the antibiotic round to rebuild your good bacteria. All the antibacterial everything in our world is destroying our good bacteria and balance. Avoid anything that says antibacterial and you will be safer, and your gut will thank you. It is the loss of good bacteria that leads to repeat illnesses (relapse of bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.) and C Diff, which is life threatening.
Better yet, opt not to take the antibiotic, and use a natural antibiotic like Garlic, Honey, Grapefruit Seed Extract, or one of the many others. That is what we do – a great learning curve brought on by my son’s allergy to antibiotics.
Keep it basic and simple. You don’t need to go for a $10 drink of some exotic promise to make you the most energetic thing on the block. Just keep your water intake up and add a food like kefir to your diet and you will notice a huge difference.
