Question by Strawberry Fields Forever: Is it normal to have cramps that make you unable to walk?
I seem to have cramps all the time. Before, during and after my period. I was on birth control to try to regulate my periods but it only made me sick. So I got off of it. I think it made my periods lighter, but I still get really bad pains. I will get a pain that feels like it’s in my vagina and it almost comes up through my butt. It’s a really sharp pain and it almost paralyzes me! I will be sitting and I’ll get a sharp shooting pain and I’ll jump from the pain, but I can’t walk or get up.
My gyno acted like I was just being a baby and to suck it up. But I missed school because of it. I cancel plans with friends because it hurts so bad. It affects my everyday life. I don’t think this is normal.
I get a series of cramps though. They’re different at each cycle. Like before I get my period I’ll have cramps that feel almost like gas pains. Then when I get my period, I’ll have normal period cramps plus the excruciating sharp pains. Then afterwards I’ll get the gassy cramps again.
I read somewhere that Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be worsened by periods, so I don’t know if I have that. My symptoms seemed to match IBS. I know I should go see a doctor, but I just wanted to see if anyone else is like this.

Well that wasn’t very nice of the person to say that to you D:. Don’t worry I get that to, I can’t do anything for 3 days, and it also causes me to throw up because of the pain. Try using some really strong pain killers. Hope this helps.

WTH is this its driving me mad and its painful because I feel pain and then I have to go to the bathroom.

Any change in bowel movements like you suggest should be checked out by the doctor to be on the safe side – better safe than sorry.
I have found though that over the Christmas period I have been eating all sorts of stuff that I don’t usually eat and my guts are protesting now to say the least!
You could see if this problem continues after a few days of eating what your body is more used to. If it settles down then things are probably OK. If they don’t go and see the doc.

Question by Katie H: Suspected ovarian cyst but blood test shows normal hormone levels?
Only had one period in the last year (and it was horrific). My stomach is out of proportion with the rest of my body; relatively slender legs, arms, collarbone area and face, yet my stomach is large. However, it isn’t soft with rolls, like most overweight people. It’s pretty firm, and more swollen on the left side. I actually look pregnant (definitely not!)…. with bad stretch marks, especially on the more swollen left side.

And on the left side, I get excruciating pains. They happen in the middle and left side of my lower abdomen; usually extremely sharp stabbing pains, but these are sporadic. I constantly have a tight, cramping sensation. Sore lower back, and tingling in my feet – could be from the suspected cyst pressing on my nerve endings. I’ve also had irritable bowel syndrome symptoms for the past year, but I found out that ovary problems can have very similar symptoms.

And I also have excess bodily hair growth. Not huge amounts, but it’s enough to be quite annoying, and not the most ladylike of things. Extreme temper issues, and it feels, at times, like I have extreme PMS/PMT.

I had a blood test two weeks ago and got my results today; apparently my hormone levels are ‘normal’. Is it possible to have an ovarian cyst and not have an obvious hormone imbalance, or at least have a fluctuating hormone imbalance that may not neccesarily be picked up by a blood test?

I have an ultrasound scan tomorrow; a normal and a transvaginal (eeeek!). Could my problems be caused by something else? Or could it be more sinister than ovarian cyts or PCOS?

Note – also, endrometriosis does run in my family and I know these can be linked – but doesn’t that cause heavy periods? I’d had one period in the space of a year…. and once I did have a sudden rush of blood, but that lasted two minutes at the very most.

Just Because You have Normal Blood Test’s Doesn’t Rule Out PCOS

if PCOS run’s in you’re Family, Then You Most Likely Have It. You said Endo Runs In You’re Family? That Could Be The Reason for extreme PMS

i get Functional Cysts every month (ovulation to menstruation) so don’t feel bad.

Endometriosis and/or a cyst could be the reason for only 1 period a year.

If the Doctor Find’s A Cyst, she will probably put you on Birth Control For PMS/PMDD and for cysts. YAZ is probably the one she will put you on (i was on it, i had/have cysts and PMDD)

anymore questions just ask <3 let me know what happens at you're ultrasound (the results)

Question by Sarah J: Aft er two courses of antibiotics for a throat infection I’m absolutely wiped out. Is this normal?
is it normal to feel so lethargic after taking antibiotics? I know how they work and I’m taking probiotics and vitamin C but I’m so very tired and have no appetite.

Answer by dumarje
sometimes when you have a bad infection your body does become wiped out and it takes awhile for you to get your strength back. But…when in doubt and feeling lousy always consult your doctor! The doctor will be able to tell you what is causing your fatigue or might do some tests to make sure the infection is completely gone.
hope you feel better soon.

Question by livitup11: Advice for feeling normal while dealing with hypoglycemia?
My doctor recently diagnosed me with hypoglycemia. I have a number of other health problems including chronic tension headaches, ovarian cysts, and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

Generally I feel nauseous and dizzy/lightheaded unless I eat pretty much every 2 hours or so. I guess I just can’t figure out how to eat because I feel pretty horrible most of the time. How can I deal with this?
Also, I would like to avoid gaining a ton of weight.

i know someone who has hypoglycemia and she just keeps snacks in her purse and eats when she needs to. You should be able to lead a very normal life, just know when you need to have a snack.
hope that helps!
