Question by Prosperity: Could I be pregnant or something more serious?
The last time I had my period was June 25th to July 1. I have irregular periods. This is the longest I have been without it. Yesterday I had light blood in the mid morning. By 4pm it was not there anymore. Today same thing. I took a pregnancy test on July 23rd and it was negative. I don’t know what else it could be. Can someone share some possible thoughts? I went to the doctor on August 19th and he didn’t do a pregnancy test or consider it. He gave me a prescription for birth control and said it should bring my period back on.
I had some regular things going on with me which I relate them to stuff like pms, stress, or pre period. Symptoms: Breast tenderness for 3 weeks that stopped 2 weeks ago and then itched for a week and now I get it here and there, bloated and fullness i think is coming from possible irritable bowel syndrome, lower back aches, pelvic pains that went away a week ago, hot flashes too often, i don’t know what this could be but sometimes food and drinks taste funny to me like a bitter taste or sour taste even if it’s sweet. I don’t want to take another test because I’m afraid of the results. I want a positive. I figured if I miss it for this month then I will take one in September.

Question by Chris: IBS or something more serious? Probiotics to blame?
I am a 23 year old male who had relatively minor IBS for about a year before deciding to take the probiotic Align. After taking Align for a week, my “stomach” problems have become worse than they have ever been. While I have only occasional diarrhea (non-bloody), and no abdominal pain to speak of, I am very gassy. Throughout the day, though especially in the morning, I can press down on the lower-right quadrant of my stomach and feel (and hear) a lot of gurlging/ fluid moving around. This side of my abdomen makes really loud/ embarassing noises. I went on antibiotics for two week to try and get rid of the Align bacteria, but I still have similar problems. I stopped the antibiotics about a week ago. I also now feel nauseous in the mornings, which I never felt before taking Align/ antbiotics.
Does this sound like IBS exacerbated by taking Align, or something more serious?

I would be careful of the foods you eat for awhile and see if that helps. Stay away from high fiber foods to help out with the gas, and go on a bland diet of soup and toast for a day or two. Drink plenty of good fluids (no soda or juice) to try and settle the stomach. Tea without caffeine, sugar or milk is usually a good one. It sounds like your system needs time to clear out everything. You should also try searching the internet for other reactions to Align and see if it is common.

Question by lovinglife2326: Can IBS lead to more bowel/stomach problems?
I’ve had Irritable Bowel Syndrome for 14 yrs (diagnosed at 14) Recently in the past 6-12mths i’ve had increasing stomach pain/nausea. More recently in the past 2 months i’ve rarely had a bowel movement (i’m down to once a wk) That is highly unusual as i’m known to have many a day from the IBS. I genenrally cannot go somewhere without a bathroom being available at anytime, yet more recently its been when the time hits, I need to be on the toilet right then or there or there will be an “accident” These bowel movements i’m having now suddenly hit with extreme cramping followed by like an hr long session of being on the toilet, usually ending with a small muscousy amount of pink tinged blood. My dr seems to blame everything on IBS and tells me I just need to learn to live with it, but i’m at my limit, I just can’t take this feeling anymore.
Please help with any advice, and sorry if I was too blunt in detail.

As your doctor to test you for Celiac disease. I believe it’s becoming diagnosed more and more as doctors find out more about it. It sounds like maybe you had some sort of mild infection previously (?) with the IBS. Celiac, which is an autoimmune disease wherein gluten (the protein in wheat and a number of other grains) destroys the villi in the small intestine. Are you losing weight at all? That would also indicate a lack of digesting your food.
Clearly something is happening. If your doctor will not investigate other options please find another doctor who will take you seriously. This is NOT normal and you should not have to suffer.

Question by mommy of 2: Gross Question, but whatever – Loose bowel movements/Intestinal cramping for more than a week now 34 wks preg
Is this normal? It’s actually the complete opposite for me because I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I’m usually ALWAYS constipated and I only use the toilet once a day or less. Now, I am using atleast 2 -3 times a day with intestinal cramping, diahrea/loose stools for a week an a half or slightly longer.
Any relation to starting labor soon (in a few weeks?) or just something that comes with pregnancy?

Question by Jessica: What are pro-biotics and how do I get more of them in my diet?
I often suffer from UTI, allergies and the common cold. I eat a healthy diet and workout regulary, so I am frusterated that I get sick so often. I heard that consuming more “probiotics” would help in these areas.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
