Question by drcuriousiity: Is rice milk similar to soy milk?
Is rice milk similar to soy milk in that it contains phytoestrogens? I’m wondering what the health benefits are compared to soy milk, almond milk etc. and if it’s a more healthy alternative for those who have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) or for those who are lactose intolerant. Thanks in advance!

Question by I Love My Son! 5/25/10 #2 on the way 1/13/12: I think my son is sensitive to milk, what milk should i buy?
My husband has irritable bowel syndrome, and I think my son may have it too. He’s 12 months old, but he’s not allergic to milk, but it does give him diarrhea and a belly ache. He can eat other forms of dairy and be fine like yogurts and cheese, but the straight milk just doesn’t agree with him. Anyone else’s child have this? What kind of milk did you buy. I was looking into the almond breeze. Is that a good substitute?

My son is on almond milk and really likes it. There is rice milk too, although I have not tried it. I would stear clear of soy milk, as there are components in it similar to estrogen, and there is some questions about how it affects boys. The other thought is to try raw milk (unpasturized). The pasturization process kills the good bacterias in the milk that help the body digest it.
Hope you find something that works for your little man. Never fun to see them hurting!

Question by teke777: How should I drink my prescription milk?
My doctor told me to drink milk standing on my head as this will help relax my irritable bowel syndrome. However, after I drink it I get hiccups for half an hour. When I just drink the milk normally, I don’t. What gives?

I don’t understand how standing on your head to drink milk will relax irritable bowel… makes no sense! I would seek a second opinion. To get rid of your hiccups try sitting in a chair, holding your arms in the air, arching your back to stretch and take really deep breaths.

Question by Peace: Milk and bowel movements related?
Lately, it seems like when I drink milk, the day of or after I have extreme cramping while my bowels are producing and an urgency to go to the bathroom. My doctor says it’s irritable bowel syndrome from anxiety.. but I never had it in the past (just lately) and sometimes it seems like it’s from milk. Does anyone else experience this or know if it’s related? Thank you.
