Question by Missymae: what can i do? i have a very embarassing problem and am supposed to live with it the rest of my life?
This is an incredibly embarrassing problem that i now have. I have extreme IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and Fecal incontinence.(which means i defaecate on my self w/o control). I am only 29 yrs old and according to the GI dr, my muscles are fine in that area. his only suggestions are to take this high dosed medicine for the rest of my life, and at some point have a colostomy. I don’t think i am ready mentally for that. I have tried to go back to school to better educate my self and have failed classes because i would have an accident before going in. Any thing sets off these accidents, Water food nothing at all. The Dr’s have me on 80 mg of bentyl a day. normal does is 40mg, I take tofrinil at night and live on Imodium and Metamucil. From taking these prescriptions i am so tired that i cant functions. I have had 2 different opinions and that is the answer from both. I can no longer go shopping that i don’t know where a bathroom is and i try not going because it is embarrassing when you have “stuff” running down your leg. I have changed my diet and nothing helps. Any suggestions would be appreacheated, Thanks
I have tried the adult diapers. They do help but at the same time leave you galded. i try to stay at home because i know i can make it to the bathroom. As for school i am trying to complete it online. because i cant tell you when the accident will happen. I also have 2 beautiful children that i need to think about as well.

Question by shoptheflower: Probiotic bills and capsules packs say that they have a certain amount of live bacteria at the time of?
manufacturing. How or do they stay alive while on the shelf? They never state shelf life. Am I just taking a bunch of dead probiotics that do absolutely nothing?
Also, if I mix a serving of a live probiotic product, from dannon,
with yogart, will more of them grow in the yougart? Yogart is a lot cheaper than the product, so I wondered if I could just buy it once and keep the organizims growin by adding some to new yogart every week.

buy only probiotics from the refrigerated section of the health food store.

if you take the probiotics as directed..the whole bottle…once every 6 months or after a course of antibiotics you will be ok..no need to try to grow in the dannon

Question by Loot P: should i serve my wife papers..her irritable bowel syndrome is making it hard to live?
OK..my wife is the bread winner and that’s ok with me. I stay home with our small kids. I do all the cooking and the laundry….when I wash clothes i find literal shyt cakes in her panty. She has this way of wrapping up her panty it will be compact, but I can’t understand why in the hell she would leave that for me to see. It’s not right. This has been going on for 6 months. Now I use latex gloves to do the laundry. If you see a man around town with bleach spots all over his clothes its me because I practically use up a gallon of bleack a week. I’m thinking about leaving her.

Question by Betabite: How to live with irritable bowel syndrome?
I was diagnosed a few months back. And then my doctor suggested that I would start eating this powder (It’s basically just natural fibers) but I had a hard time swallowing it (I’m like that with pills as well). Then I started drinking this yogurt drink filled with fibers and that made me better for like 3 weeks. Now I’m just like I was in the beginning. I go to the bathroom 9 times a day and it’s interfering with school. I am under stress, like most students are so that is not gonna change and I am definitely not going to drop out.

Do you have any tips? On how I can be able to go to class without running to the bathroom every half hour?

And when I eat my stomach hurts so I barely eat at school, I never go out to dinner anymore. Is there something that can help with that?

Oh, I’m 20 years old, I eat normal (try to stay away from fruits and spicy food). I ride my bike to school everyday, like 5 km one way. And I go for a walk every other day for about 20 min (doctors orders).
Thanks in advance!

The fibre powders are most probably Fibrogel. I have had IBS for many years and fibre makes it worse. Avoid any green veg or fruit when you are having an attack, eat a bland diet of mashed potato, fish and rice. Have you tried Imodium, this will stop you from going to the toilet so often. There are loads of sites on IBS, different people have different ways of dealing with it.
Good Luck.
