Question by Lu: Can you ferment fruit juice with probiotics or kefir grains?
I recently made coconut yogurt by blending coconut water and pulp from a young thai coconut then adding a probiotic I bought. I put it in a glass jar and left it on the dehydrator tray for 6 hours. It became creamy and sour like yogurt. I also did the same process but added 2 tablespoons of kefir yogurt I bought. It worked also, and became fizzy and delightful. I want to know if you can do it with fresh juice drinks, and if so, is it safe-or will it harbor bad bacterias and make me sick? I’ve never heard of anyone having probiotic juice, so I am concerned there must be something wrong with it, but I can’t find any info on it online

One of the problems with CF is that the pancreas does not produce digestive enzymes. With this condition, a person cannot digest food properly and the food will go right through them. What is needed are digestive enzymes taken with meals, Kefir does have good bacteria but that is no substitute for enzymes. Bacteria do not break down our food, enzymes do.

Is there any concrete research that these cultured dairy drinks are useful to human health? Are supplements from a health food store just as effective? Can some probiotic supplements be harmful to anyone?

yogurt helps bladder infections because it has good bacteria. that good bacteria eats away the bad bacteria. however if you have a bladder infection, it is always best to drink water to flush it out. also drink cranberry juice as it does work because of its acids. bacteria can’t live in acidic places. you can also try cranberry pills which also work well. probiotics do not cause bladder infections but if you are on some antibiotic, it might work against it. seek advice from your doctor.

I’ve seen plenty of recipes for using kefir in baked cheesecakes, cookies etc and I’ve wondered what the point is – surely when it gets hot, all the good bugs would be killed off – so is it all just about the taste, and not really about the health benefits, or am I missing something?
