Question by Sue W: Our tabby was just diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. Has anyone used homeopthic drugs or treatments?
Our Luther appeared perfectly healthy but was losing weight. He did have liver disease which seemed to have been cured. Because of the weight lose we took him to our Vet. He thought is could be irritable bowel syndrome and he suggested an endoscopy. While in the hospital as part of the pre surgical procedure Lou had a chest xray which showed a mass on the lung. A CT scan then showed several more tumors. It appears to be metastatic cancer but we are waiting for confirmation from the biopsy that was taken. My husband and I are devastated. We visited our little baby in the hospital and is was so difficult. His leg was still taped from where they had the iv and he was shaking. Luther is home now and is slowly returning to his usual self. You see, he had never been away from home and it was traumatic. I’m trying to research as much as possible before see our Vet and the oncologist. Any advice, treatments, would be so very much appreciated. We love this little guy.

I am so sorry about this. Having lost a dearly loved pet to cancer I know how terrible this is. Unfortunately, my dog lived less than a week after his diagnoses because his cancer was so advanced. I want to stress that his was NOT lung cancer but lympho sarcoma so don’t judge your situation by mine. As long as your baby still has quality of life then he has hope. And I can tell that he has very loving and caring humans that will do everything they can for him. Sometimes the only thing we have left to do is to ease their suffering but I do wish you the best of luck. I don’t have any answers but wanted to say that you will all be in my prayers. I hope you get good news from the specialists.

Question by speak now: Change my diet, or just wait it out? [bloating]?
First, sorry for all these details.

I recently decided to try to eat healthier. I’ve been eating special k with milk for breakfast, cheese and crackers for lunch, an apple for a snack, and various dinner entrees, then ice cream for dessert. i am slightly lactose intolerant, and i’ve been getting sick a lot more frequently.

i’m confused whether my bloating is from eating more fruit, being lactose intolerant, possibly irritable bowel syndrome, or just from PMS. is this something i should wait out, or should i see a doctor?- what would a doctor be able to do for me?
i have eaten ice cream for dessert my whole life, that is nothing new. so only the cheese and crackers would be effecting my lactose intolerance

I am currently breastfeeding a 7 week old. When my milk first came in, baby was VERY gassy. She would scream every waking hour! The only time she didn’t squeal, wail, and bunch up was when we swaddled her tightly with a ziploc full of warm water against her tummy. (A baby safe heating pad) At about 2 weeks, my lactation consultant changed her diaper and suggested I cut out dairy and soy from my diet. (I’m not sure what she saw in my daughter’s poopy). I began to see improvement in about 3 days and after 2 weeks all symptoms were gone. The consultant suggested that I wait 3 weeks, and then slowly start adding soy back into my diet to see if soy caused a reaction in baby. Apparently, the proteins in cow’s milk and soy are very similar, and can cause extreme gas and cramping if baby has an allergy or sensitivity. The consultant also made a point of telling me that it was a sensitivity to protein and NOT lactose intolerance. Lactose is naturally present in breast milk whether mom eats dairy or not. Luckily, my pediatrician says that most babies outgrow the sensitivity between 6 months and 1 year. Until then, read those labels!

this is our friend ’s experience

Question by cyanidedaquari: I have IBS and am in constant pain, but pain meds just make it worse?
I am 25 years old and I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
for the past year and a half, i have tried every single modified diet i could and nothing has helped
I am in so much pain that my doctor prescribed pain medication, i have been on everything from Oxycontin to morphine but all these medications seem to do is land me back in the emergency room with blood in my stool
Please help me, have any of you faced the same situation? What did you do about it?

Answer by syl c.
Why would anyone treat IBS with powerful painkillers that mask the underlying problem? You need to see a different dr an gastroenterologist who specalizes in this condition. You need to treat the problem not the side effects that associate with this or any other inflammation of the intestines. Your problem is just geting worse because the painkillers are enabling the condition to flourish. See a specialist and get tests done in order to get proper treatment and the correct medications. Good luck.

You have to completely change your diet in order for you to not have as bad of pains.

I have ibs. but i eat really healthy. i’m talking organic fruit, vegtables; start your day with a glass of prune juice.

stay away from greasy foods like pizza.

drink tons of water.

i know it sucks. and i still have bad tummy ache days, but eating better will help A LOT.
