Question by SamaAnna: Health issues…IBS?? or not? Please Help!?
For the past 9 months i’ve been dealing with a lot of stomach problems. At first it was just constipation but over time it’s escalated to being more than that. Here’s a list of my current symptoms:

1. Constipation….i can literally go a week without having a BM
2. Sharp Pains on both sides of stomach….it feels like there’s knives swarming around in my stomach for a few hours at a time once or twice a week.
3. Burning feeling….in my upper abdomen it feels like it’s burning…and then my upper back will hurt.
4. Loss of apetite….i have lost 30 Lbs. so far from just lack of appetite because food usually makes things worse.

As for those ofyou who will say that i should go see a doctor….i’ve seen 7…i’ve been to a gastroenterologist, and even a gynecologist. I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy and it came out normal. The gynecolosit told me about some little things he found in ultrasound i had..but he says that they wouldnt cause me any pain. The gastroenterologist now says that i must have Irritable Bowel Syndrome…but that doesn’t explain the knife swarming feeling or the burning. I got my Gallbladder removed in november because they found gallstones inside and thought that must be causing my pain..but it didn’t get rid of it at all. I’ve tried laxatives and most of the time they don’t work. I drink a lot of water every day..atleast 64 oz. I’ve tried high fiber diets..they didn’t help really. Also my menstrual cycles are very irregular and very very painful..and even my normal stomach problems get worse. I’m takin 4 different meds everyday tryin to relieve me of the pain but it’s not doing a whole lot of good. So if anyone has ever gone through what i’m going through or has any idea what could be causing this pain..thatd be awesome.

Question by Lucy: Can someone help me with my health issues?
18yrs old, female, 110lbs, not sexually active. Here’s what’s wrong:

I’ve been feeling very odd lately. For about 2 weeks or so, I just feel extremely exhausted. I am getting 8-9 hours of sleep every night, and sleep through the night with no trouble. I am not under any real amount of stress. I go to school 5 days a week 1hr 30 minutes every other day, and 3hrs every other day. I have no homework to make me stressful. I do not think I am depressed because, well, I don’t feel depressed! I’m just so tired. My body and mind are tired. I am having horrible migraines about 2 times a day, usually when I wake up, and once in the evenings. I usually take some Ibruprofen for it, but it doesn’t help. I try not to take lots of pain killers though, because they upset my stomach. I have also been getting the feeling of over heating a lot. Could be related to anxiety, but I don’t feel anxious or nervous when it happens. I describe them as “Hot Flashes” but my mother says I couldn’t possibly have them because I am only 18.

I am going to the doctor next week, but would like to see if anyone could possibly have some suggestions of what’s wrong, or what I could talk to my doctor about (like possible things that could be wrong.) I’m sure there are a million things that could be wrong, since my symptoms are so common, but I just want to check all options.

PLEASE NO RUDE ANSWERS.

My current diagnosed medical problems are: (incase they could somehow be related, which I doubt they are).

-IBS- Irritable bowel syndrome
-Stomach Spasms
-Digestive Disorder (Food does not digest slowly enough)
-Allergic to dairy, red sauces, most spices.

I am currently on medicine for the first 3, and have a special diet for the last one. I have never experienced any unusual side effects from them.

If you would like to talk more, or know more or have anything else relating to my issues, please email me at silvercat414@gmail.com

Thank you.
Yes I am on birth control, the Depo-Provera shot. I have been on it for a total of 7 months.

You could have an iron deficiency, but also a hormonal imbalance. Are you currently taking any birth control? The iron deficiency could stem from your digestive disorders, which you could also be treating with probiotics.

If you are on birth control then I think the hot flashes would be associated with this. If possible, discontinue use and see how you feel. Synthetic hormones are very bad over the long term, and in the short term as well because of all these side effects they can cause. I know most doctors won’t even prescribe them to friends and family.

Question by Lush: I am 32. Is it possible to get my health back after years of abusing my body?
If I started on a health program now, would I live a full life or am I pretty much gong to die young. I have stopped all my vices but really need to get back into health.

For the last fifteen years, I have smoked heavily (quit a few months ago). From the age of 21 – 26, I also smoked marijuana regularly and drank amost daily. I also have suffered from bulimia. Needless to say, I never kept up on my fitness and health.

So far my health history is Irritable bowel Syndrome, elevated blood pressure (now normal with diet and lifestyle changes), and hemmorhoids, but nothing serious yet.

While it’s not possible to repair 100% of the damage done you can still impact and help your body alot. It won’t be fast but you should see some improvements in your body even if it is just peace of mind that you’re taking care of it. By the way congratulations this is great to hear.

Question by slhannah: Mental Health Question…Help ASAP!?
Hmm.. Ok, so I have anxiety issues, depression sometimes, been diagnosed with Bi polar disorder, and lately have been under some major stress from relocating and working .. so I have been overeating and have had some stomach problems (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) which has given me stabbing pains in my stomach. So I am working with my EAP to find a counselor, I have been going to therapy for a few years and know that its URGENT for me to see someone ASAP, before it starts affecting me even worse. I am on medication – Lamictal which is a mood stabilizer, Trazadone for sleep at night, and Seroquel mood stabilizer too, so I just kinda need some advice on what to do, I’m gonna start exercising, and getting massages, so I dunno .. I just need serious help, thanks alot for listening.. Oh yeah and I go to NA meetings 5 times a week, I had a bad addiction and went to a treatment center and got clean, have relapsed .. but currently clean .. so I dunno, I’m just trying to establish a personal relationship with God that will help me out a bit .. but DAMN.
