Question by michimama: Is this Crohn’s Disease?
At the age of 16 I acquired a stomach illness. Everyday after school I would have terrible bouts of painful watery diarrhea (and occasional constipation)–worsening with stress, PMS and certain food intake.
After that I realized I had a chronic bowel disorder. My doctor, after just a few insignificant tests, decided I had irritable bowel syndrome. I’m 24 now, and threw a few different SSRIs and antispasmodics at me. Since then my symptoms have only increased with time.

Sometimes I will find blood(either on toilet paper or in toilet) and mucus with my feces. I have constant soreness, itchiness and mild bleeding around my anus. My bowel movement are very urgent, numerous and extremely painful. Sometimes I will go as much as 15 times a day. The pain in my abdomen is excruciating and feels as if my intestines are about to rupture. I have never felt pain even comparable to the pain I get from my stomach issues. And I just feel so exhausted and sore in my hips all the time. I also get nauseated and vomit. Sometimes the vomiting and diarrhea is worse than any food borne illness or stomach flu I have ever caught in my life.

It’s time to see a specialist in diseases of the digestive system–a gastroenterologist. You might have irritable bowel disease, but you could also have some kind of inflammatory bowel disease, like Crohn’s Disease. Whatever the cause of your digestive problems, more can be done to control the pain and the diarrhea.

If your doctor is not listening to you and you don’t have access to a gastroenterologist, take yourself to the emergency room next time you have severe symptoms. It is not normal to have such extreme diarrhea and vomiting and could lead to dehydration and other serious health problems.

Good luck!

Question by : Do I have Crohn’s or IBS?
Hi,

Im 17 and quite worried that I have crohns disease. I have had random on/off diarrhoea for the last few months which has switched with constipation. So I’ve had a mix of diarrhoea and constipation. My diet is normal, I don’t eat anything different which could have caused the diarrhoea. I havent been abroad anywhere recently. Also, I had ibs as a child which I grew out of.
I don’t have stomach cramps but my stomach is always making gurgling noises but I’m no hungry. Also, I have quite bad anxiety, I feel nauseous and get diarrhoea during stressful times.

If you have ibs, what symptoms do you get? I researched that Irritable Bowel Syndrome is the number one digestive disease in America with 30-50 million sufferers, so there has to be some people reading this who suffer from it.

Crohns disease.
Do you have it or know anyone who suffers from it? Symptoms? Did they have ibs before crohns?

Sorry my question is long, I just don’t want to be an idiot and waste the doctors time if I only have ibs.

My dilemma is really frustrating because ibs cannot be factually diagnosed and ibs and crohns are really similar.

Thanks for the help,much appreciated.

The people I know who have Crohn’s didn’t have IBS before. I’m leaning towards you having “IBS” only because you’ve mentioned you’ve had it before.
All of your symptoms can really be a sign of either condition. Try to look for distinguishing symptoms on the internet. Also, Crohn’s is more common with Jewish people by the way.
I’m going to go with IBS. I think you have it.
Good luck and remember to look up details of both diseases, there will be some symptoms that you haven’t mentioned and that will help you know for sure which one you have

Hope I helped

Question by Addie: Has anyone had trouble diagnosing a digestive disorder, such as Irritable Bowel, Celiac, or Crohn’s?
Ever since I was little I’ve had problems with digestion. I originally thought it was lactose-intolerance, and my GP told me to take Lactaid pills. They worked at first, probably psychologically, then stopped working and was still having frequent discomfort.

Now that I’m 19 years old and Still having problems, I found a gastroenterologist. He scheduled me for bloodwork and a colonoscopy. Today he did my scope, but he hasn’t seen the blood work yet. He says my colon looks fine and suspects I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. However when I looked up the symptoms for Celiac disase, I have all the symptoms except for osteoporosis, which my mother has. ( We both have digestive issues, as well my her brother/my uncle) I’m almost positive that’s what I have just basing it off that, but my doctor says I’ve been looking at the internet too much, and that what the internet says is Wrong… Has anyone been in a similar situation?? IS the internet, in fact, a Bad reference, even though Every website has the same symptoms listed??? Help!

Unfortunately YES the internet shouldnt be used for self diagnosis.WIll I tell you why you dont have coeliac disease>>Because the colonoscopy would have shown damage to the villi of your lower intestine. This hapens in the disease as the villi become flattened and irritated and this is easily seen on a scope.

Its very likely that it IS IBS(i have it too:)welcome))hope youre ok x

Question by ♥ Uwish ♥: IBS (irritable Bowel syndrome) or Crohn’s Disease?
My husband was recently in the ER for extreme stomach pain. He was vomiting and had diarrhea all day. I came home from work and rushed him to the ER.

After a blood test and urine test they told us he most likely had the stomach flu and strained his stomach muscles from throwing up so much. And that he probably has IBS. They have him Bentyl for the stomach pain.

After reading some more info on the web I am thinking he may have Crohn’s disease. Would this show up on the blood or urine test the performed? Or would he have to be tested especially for Crohn’s by his doctor?

He is still have episodes of sever abdominal pain.

Thanks in advance

Visit with your doctor about his diagnosis. Ask about Crohn’s and why he may or may not have it. If you are unsatisfied with their answers, go to another care provider until someone can give you the answers you are looking for.

Here’s a website with some information that may help answer your questions: http://www.ccfa.org/?gclid=CPGK66S9-pcCFSEfDQodLTnRCg

You’re right to be considering Crohn’s as a possiblity. Untreated, it can become very severe. However, many people live comfortably with Chrohn’s through proper diet management and a few lifestyle changes.
