Question by Ask Anything: Can I rely on my birth control pill?
I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and get diarrhea every so often. Can I rely on just my birth control pill to prevent pregnancy? Or will my IBS make it less effective?

Unfortunately, if you get diarrhea it is advised that you take another form of birth control because your body won’t have a chance to digest the hormones. I would try something like the depo provera patch, the shot, IUD, or implant. Or, keep your pills and pair them with condoms.
When it comes to something like pregnancy, I just wouldn’t risk it.

Question by –: How can I control my farts?
I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome when I’m really stressed, and I get horrible stomach pains, and the only way to relieve it is to fart.

How can I control them while in class?
I’m not worried about the sound, it’s the smell.
It smells so bad, but it’s not good to hold my farts in because it just hurts even worse.

At home, I relieve myself freely, but I can’t in class. And I can’t ask to go to the bathroom, because I have to fart literally every 5 minutes.

What do I do?

Carry gas x with you. Also try to soothe your intestines with supplements like licorice, peppermint, slippery elm, chamomile and stay away from gas producing foods before class like asparagus, broccoli, lactose, cabbage, cucumber, beans, soda and definitely avoid anything that has the ingredient ’sorbitol’ in it, which causes lots of gas/abdominal pain and is in almost every kind of gum and many kinds of candy.

Question by Airforce ones: Had a bad experience at the exxon. Please Help me.. this is getting out of control.. I don’t know what to do
Another situation similar to last night.. but here goes… So I went to the Hob Nob with some friends to get a burger and chilli cheese tots. It was so good but then we decided to go bowling. On the way down the road.. I had these really bad sh!t pains and had to go. I asked the driver to pull me over at the exxon. I was in there forever cause I had to do #2. I have Pole Position downloaded on my phone.. I prolly played 5 games while I waited for nature to take it’s course. It was an awful mess when I was thru. I had to wipe I bet ya 30 times. The clan I was with was worried about me thinking I died in there. This is getting out of control. Seems like these days.. I can’t even go out in public without spending most of my time in the bathroom. Could this be irritable bowel syndrome or something? I don’t want to be tied to a medication. What am I going to do????????

You need to go to the doctor. Yes, you might have IBS and you might HAVE to take medication or change your diet drastically.

Question by cheetahhate: What can I do to control my Gas, and stop my bloating stomach? I do have IBS.?
I have tried “Charcocaps Homeopathic formula”and “Digestive Advantage” pills for IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Anybody try something that turned out to be effective?
Yea, I’ve got acidophelus too.

I’ve had IBS forever! Watch what you eat– talk with your doc about some meds—-

Something to try is acidophelus (probably spelled it wrong) that will help– it’s natural too!

Question by Shorty: what are the best ways to control irritable bowel syndrome?
i have been struggling with irritable bowel syndrome for a week now. I was prescribed Levsin to help relax my bowels, Although I take the medication every four hours like i’m supposed to I still have trouble eating, I went for 4 days and did not eat. I finally ate and the first few times i didn’t have an attack, but i starting to have stomach pain after the last meal. Is there certain foods that are better for me to eat, or am I just going to have to deal with this the rest of my life! Please help me!

IBS is, more or less, a chronic illness but as you age, the symptoms get better and for some people, they completely disappear. So don’t lose hope.
As for your diet, i’d recommend taking small meals throughout the day instead of the fixed 3 meals. Drink plenty of water (trust me, it helps). Add more fiber to your diet by eating more vegetables, salads and fruits. You can also try the fiber you get at the stores which you’re supposed to mix in water and drink.

Don’t take too much tension.
Also, if you feel nauseous after eating or feel bloated, try slowly walking around for a bit after the meals.
Avoid pop, spicy food and other such things.
