Question by Jamie: Is this colon cancer?
Please read all of it even though it is very long. This is a serious question and I am very worried.

A few weeks ago I had urinary symptoms and was confirmed I had a UTI, I had antibiotics and it was fine. Now I flew out to new york on the 2nd December and was on a shaky boat for half an hour the day after. I am quite tired (lost 5 hours of sleep) and I have Irritable bowel syndrome. Lately I sometimes have been having some urgency too poo when I need to, unlike it is normally but thats happened to me before. After I came off the boat till now I’ve been feeling quite dizzy sometimes, like I’ve just been on the boat/plane but its not really going away, and I feel like that sometimes, worse when I’m on the computer, but like I said i’m also quite tired.

I’m also having some abdominal pain in various places, although it is very mild, and I am randomly having some pains in other places for a few seconds too, mainly in areas with veins. I am going for a cancer scan when they rub the jelly on your stomach on 14th december. If I had colon cancer would it be detected then? Also do they tell you straight away or send a letter in the post about anything?

I am 14 years old, and am generally quite healthy. My stools have been fine. Also is there a good surivival chance if I do have it and it’s treated now?

Could someone please help? Thanks.
Oops I mean i went on the boat on the 4th.

Don’t panic!Base on your symptom and your age all not indicate that you have colon cancer. But no double you have some GI problems at less irritable bowel syndrome.Your whole present history of illness is less then a week.Colon cancer is take months if not years to developed and the symptom are very insidual until late stage.Your doctor order those test;abdominal ct-scan or ultrasound just want to rule out some other illness. The most useful workup to find colon cancer is colonscopy.

You don’t have an anaesthetic with a barium enema investigation and this may be what will be suggested eventually, but they won’t “put you to sleep”.
Yes, you can have ca bowel at 25 years but it is more likely to be IBS. The blood could come, also, from piles.
You sound very worried – why not go back to your surgery and see the Practice Nurse or Nurse Practitioner; they usually have a more sympathetic ear and will arrange for you to have another appointment with a GP if they feel concerned in any way.

Question by : What are the chances for 18 year old to have cancer?
I am an 18-year old male. Please read.

I’ve been having this lower dull abdominal discomfort/dull pain for nearly 2 months now. I am now starting to get worried that a tumor might be growing in my intestinal area because this discomfort has been present for 2 months! I have never had a problem that long before.

The discomfort is not painful or stabbing. It’s just a dull, consistent pain that is very discomforting in my lower abdominal region.

Apart from the discomfort itself, I don’t have many other symptoms.

-No weight loss or loss of appetite
-No blood in stools
-No urine problems
-No constipation

Only mild diarrhea. My stools are loose and they float.

One thing to note is that I’ve been pretty stressed out during the months of September 2011 and early October 2011 and occasionally get tension headaches from my stress. And I am also a pretty anxious person overall. But how can stress cause discomfort in my intestinal area, if this discomfort is in fact related to stress?

Before you say “Go to the doctor” and what not, I’ve been to the doctor twice now and they believe it is “IBS” (irritable bowel syndrome). As much as I hope it’s IBS and not something as serious as cancer, my mind just can’t seem to stop worrying!

What do you think?

I think you should be treated for your anxiety disorder, not just your IBS.

You do not have cancer.

I don’t want to scare you. But please go back to the doctor and ask him to get your ovaries checked out.

When they get diseased, the big, silent symptom is back pain; swelling of the belly and constant tiredness.

It’s often overlooked. Please go and ask for them to be checked specifically.

Question by : i think i might have ovarian cancer?
I have been going back and forth to the doctors and the hospital for the last 3 years on numerous tablets, i am in constant pain symptoms are, constant abdominal pain and pelvic pain, feel bloated my belly expands like you wouldnt believe even if not eaten, lower back problems, pain during sexual intercourse, my periods are all over the place, my bowels are all over the place too i can either be constipated or have diohrea, they orignally thought i had Irritable Bowel Syndrome but i now know it is something more than this as i have followed the guidelines for IBS and not seen to be doing anything. I went for a scan last year an the nurse said i shouldnt really tell you this but one of your ovary’s is really inflammed size of a football you need to have some blood test’s done the doctor will request this, when i went back to hospital they said needed to go for laparoscopy, i went for surgery removed my blocked tube and some adhesions and said couldnt have any more children, but the surgeon did say we cant gurantee that this is what has been causing the pain which is rather strange, i am really stressed i am off for smear test on friday, but i know this will still not solve the matter feel like this has gone on far too long and not getting any answers, Can anyone please help me and tell me your true opinion no matter what it is please!!!!
