Question by KNK: How does your Fibromyalgia affect you?
Hello All, it has been suggested that I may have Fibromyalgia. My mother has had it for years. I just wanted to hear from your experiences to see how Fibromyalgia affects you. How do doctors really diagnose Fibromyalgia? Are there specific tests you went through? I ask because I have Wide Spread Joint Pain, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Depression and Anxiety. Per websites I’ve visited all of those are symptoms of Fibromyalgia. I guess I’m kind of reaching out for a support system you could say. I would talk to my mom, but I don’t want to worry or upset her right now. I just want to know more about Fibromyalgia and how it affects people.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, strengths, and hopes with me. It is very much appreciated.

I forgot to mention above that I also have a general weakness feeling. I’m just always tired.

Also not only does my mom have Fibro, but my sister, and my aunt (mom’s sis).

I was evaluated for a number of thngs thrugh blood tests/x rays/MRI of knee and eventually brain MRI-such as MS, Lymes, arthritis, Lymes

My 1st symtpom was severe pain to teh poit I would have agreed to amputating my legs-later on I developed debiltating faitigue, stiffness, numbness, cognitive issues, tingling…..

WATCH OUT for QUACKERY

know what it is NOT
it is not:
thick body fluids
body acid
a liver problem
autoimmune
inflammatory (There is no inflammation)
a nutritional problems
a pychological problem

all of these things can cause paina nd faitigue-but that doesn’t mean it is real fibro

REAL FMS is a disorder of the central nervous system and teh way tehbrain processes neurotransmitters (serotonin,.norepinephrine)

people who have been ‘cured’ never had real fms to begin with-it cannotbe cured by vitamins or diet….a healthy lifestyle with help take teh edge off-but will not come close to curing or reversing the symptoms.

The most promising treatments are neuro in nature-cymbalta and lyrica

narcotics and antiinflammatories (NSAIDS or steriods) don’t relaly help

You should know that there is a high rate of overdiagnosis-doctors are diagnosing any pain-even if due to lifestyle or arthritis as fibro-when it is not.

you really need to do a lot of research and confirm teh diagnosis on your own-don’t blindly believe a doctor-they are usually wrong-mosta re completely incompetant when it comes to fibro–even the so called specialists.

notice the sponsored links that come up on teh right of the YA answers pages-most of them are quackery..

Question by kaksmileygirl: Will getting my belly button pierced affect my I.B.S? (irritable bowel syndrome) and more questions!?
I am 12 years old and getting my belly button done in November for my 13th birthday. One of my older friends said it barely hurts and everything is worth it after like a month or 2 because of the healing and all that crap. But I have I.B.S (irritable bowel syndrome) and I read that if done wrong, belly button piercings can give you severe stomach problems. My I.B.S acts up daily and when I eat fast food so I never eat it. I can’t take anymore stomach problems, and no, I do not take any kind of medicine for it I just try to eat as healthy as I can.

I have another question: does it really hurt as bad as some people on the internet say it does? I’m comfortable with getting shots and I’ve only gotten my ears pierced without being nervous at all. I don’t know how this could help but I do tear open my skin with needles when I have splinters and am not afraid to shove a needle through that dead layer of skin on your hands. (duh.) I am a girly girl and want to do this because I saw it and it looked extremely cute.

I also play sports – fast pitch, volleyball, basketball, and track. So how can I prevent it from getting like caught on my clothing ? Sorry for all the questions. I already did the pinch as hard as you can for 10 seconds and I can take that almost no problem. I am told by my coaches that I am basically an all-around tough girl for my age but that’s because when I was younger I was yelled at when I cryed and told to suck it up whenever I got hurt :P It didn’t offend me in anyway.

Oh yeah, this is the last one, I heard that a Store in Bedford, Ohio called A Nu Tatt2 and are they really that sanitary and good at piercings? I’ve heard good things from them except that they are kind of over priced but that’s because it’s like really professional.

I started taking them about 3wks ago and I noticed that this month I had some discomfort but cramps were not terrible, every month for maybe 7 years I have terrible crippling cramps. I was happy do you think its due to probiotics or just coincidence ?

I took some antibiotics (azithromycin – sp?) a few weeks ago and now my son, who is nursed, has VERY loose stools. Could the antibiotics I took have passed through the breastmilk and affected him? maybe probiotics would help him? He’s had loose stools for a couple of weeks now… I asked his doctor, and he didn’t seem concerned, but its loose enough to come out the sides of his diapers, which is very annoying.
