unfortunately there is no cure, but you can ease the symptoms by watching your diet and reducing your stress

Question by planet yahoo answers: would this be medical malpractice?
in december 2008, i started experiencing lots of abdominal pains and various stomach discomfort symptoms. Gastro-enterologist in january 2009 did colonoscopy and it was normal. He then diagnosed me with Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

The ibs medications never worked for 5 months and i continued suffering. Then last week, I started experiencing extremely sharp stomach pains and i rushed to ER at 3 am. A cat scan was done on my stomach and it was revealed i had hernias.

The hernia was twisting the small intestine, choking its blood supply and obstructing bowel movements. The surgeons immediately performed a hernia surgey on me and i was hospitalized for a week. The surgeon said that had this hernia gone untreated, the entire small intestine would have failed.

Yet the gastroenterologist kept saying IBS only. So is this medical malpractice on gastroentrologist part? He put my entire small intestine at risk for organ failure. And it ended up with a rough ER visit.

Ask a lawyer. That’s the best advice I can give. Go to a law firm, and inquire.

Question by scary shari: ACUPUNCTURE: feeling worse before I feel better (mood)?
I started getting acupuncture 2 or 3 weeks ago. I’ve done a TON of research on it and am very impressed w/ the variety of health & wellness issue it can help. My main ones are insomnia, anxiety, depression, ADHD, asthma, acid reflux, and irritable bowel syndrome. None are severe (thankfully!) although some are more problematic than others.

My question: within the last week, I’ve noticed my mood is lower than it normally is. It’s not like I walk around crying, and I don’t act bitchy. I just feel less happy than usual, a little bit “blue”, and less motivated to do things. :( It’s not severe, but I can tell it’s different than my usual way of feeling.

My acupuncturist said stuff like this happens to some folks during their first few weeks of treatment, because changes are going on in the body that it’s not used to, and sometimes that makes a person feel “unbalanced” (for lack of a better word).

Anyone else notice changes like this upon starting acupuncture? If so, for how long?
P.S. (I ran out of room above) — For those who are familiar with the “retracing” phenomenon that happens to some people when they first start going to a CHIROPRACTOR (it sure happened with me!), would you say that what I described with acupuncture is a similar concept? It seems to me that it is.
P.P.S. To Heaven L and others who feel as she does — I’m not claiming acupuncture can CURE my ailments, or anybody’s. I said it can HELP the ailments. :) As in, improve them. And there really is a wealth of information, including scientific tests/experiements, that PROVE how acupuncture can help certain ailments, especially chronic pain.

Heck, anything that has been academically studied and professionall practiced for more than 2000 years, and is STILL in use today, is not simply quackery! Look it up on Wikipedia and prepare to be impressed. :)
amembal4444 is right; this would all be in better perspective if I included my age. :) I am 35. No menopause symptoms in sight — my menstrual cycle is as regular now as it was at age 25.

Question by Jes™: is there an IBS diet?
What are some things that could help with Irritable Bowel Syndrome [IBS] symptoms? I have been suffering with it for about 3 and a half years.. after complaining about extreme stomachaches, pain, and bloating for months my mom took me to the doctor during my Junior Year.. i told him my problems.. he took no test or nothing and just said that i had IBS.. should i have been tested for IBS? He gave me 2 refills of a little blue capsule.. since then i haven’t been back to the doctor and i haven’t been treating it with anything.. the pains are almost unbearable at times.. so i was wanting to find ways of helping it without medicines.. without insurance it is almost impossible for me to afford to go back to a doctor and get more refills..

thanks in advance!

I know I shouldn’t get greasy food.. but it’s just soo easy to stop and grab fast food on the way home.. :[ but I considering feeling well more important than convenience.

I am also a very nervous / stressful person.. and I have yet to figure out how to manage my stress.. I believe stress has a big part on my tummy!

This website will help you.

There is no test to tell whether you have IBS. It is a process of eliminating everything else it could be. Many women and some men suffer from it so you are not alone.

Question by ArchAngel Raziel: IBS Issue?
A family member I think has IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. She said she told the doctor she has a problem but they say they have to catch it in action. Or have to see it occur. Which I think is Foolish.

She can’t travel long distances, for fear of having an incident. It doesn’t seen to be caused only by food, because some times it happens and she hasn’t even eaten anything.

She always would take Pepto Bismo or Milk Magnisum before going out, and I think, these medications have messed up her system even more.

If anyone has any tips on treatment or things I can do to help her solve the problem please let me know.

Thank You.
