Question by stvnhthr: What works for night time diarrhea caused by IBS? ?
I’m mainly on a diet of oatmeal, applesauce and beats. I’ve been prescribed Dicyclomine, and I take Imodium, probiotics and fiber supplements as well. I usually get between 2-4 hours of sleep before the diarrhea wakes me up and then after an hour or two I’m able to get back to sleep.
I’ve tried pepto, it helps my stomach but does not stop the diarrhea.
I’m not supposed to have dairy products so cheese is out.

Any change in bowel movements like you suggest should be checked out by the doctor to be on the safe side – better safe than sorry.
I have found though that over the Christmas period I have been eating all sorts of stuff that I don’t usually eat and my guts are protesting now to say the least!
You could see if this problem continues after a few days of eating what your body is more used to. If it settles down then things are probably OK. If they don’t go and see the doc.

Question by Deb S (SFECU) pray4revival: HELP!! How do I get rid of thrush? I have had these sores in my mouth since February?
The Dr. has finally after many apts. figured out that it is thrush and I have taken diflucan once. Dr. wants me to take that for 5 more weeks. Plus Nystatin, probiotics, acidopholis. Other things I wonder if they are related: I am so thirsty and my hair has become so dry. My blood sugar was checked, it’s fine. I do not have HIV. Three years ago I had a growth on my parathyroid gland and had that removed. I am almost afraid that it’s that again. Any ideas?
I have not been on any antibiotics. And this thrush is in my mouth not anywhere else. Also the Parathyroid glands are totally different from the thyroid.
Oh, yes, tried the Benadryl, Maalox combination. It never did a thing for me. And I do not use an inhaler.

How to Get Rid of Thrush
Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of Candida Albicans and while it is not a serious condition, it can cause a lot of discomfort. As well as seeking help from your doctor and treating yourself with over the counter medicines, there are many things you can do to help yourself at home.
Steps:
Keep the affected area clean by washing with plain water. Avoid using soaps, shower and bath gels and deodorants.
Avoid using spermicidal creams, lubricants and latex condoms if suffering from vaginal thrush.
Wear natural fibres and keep affected areas as cool, clean and dry as possible.
Drink Cranberry juice.
Avoid stressful situations as stress is often a trigger for thrush.
Treat both yourself and any sexual partner you may have to avoid reinfection.
Treat persistent thrush with external application of Melaleuca Oil.
Remove, treat or avoid possible causes of thrush (where sensible): oral contraceptives, broad spectrum antibiotics, iron deficiency; anaemia, diabetes, steroid therapy, high sugar diet, alcohol.
Apply Aloe Vera gel to the affected area.
Apply natural yogurt to the affected area.
Avoid dairy foods, food and drink containing yeast, dried fruit, mushrooms, monosodium glutamate, pickles and smoked meat and fish. These have all been shown to be possible triggers for thrush.
Tips:
Thrush may be a sign of a wider overgrowth of Candida so following a restricted diet as per number 10 for at least one month may be advisable.
Consider using acidophilus supplements to support friendly bacteria in the gut.
Warnings:
While self treating is possible do not ignore persistent thrush. Seek the advice of your doctor if the symptoms do not clear within days of self treating as there may be something further amiss.

Question by Em: Fungal infections on multiple parts of my body…is there an underlying problem?
I have always had manageable cases of yellow tongue and dandruff. My father has the same. Now my vagina is cracking and itching, and it may be a fungal infection.
My Biology teacher said that a lot of people get dandruff because they wash away the probiotics that should be living on their scalp. Is my whole body deficient in probiotics?
What can I do?
I take a daily shower and have good oral hygiene…*eye roll*
