What are probiotics? Are they safe? What should I look for when purchasing a probiotic and are there any brands that are highly recommended?
Also, do probiotics work on the small intestines or is it only effective on the large intestines?

Kiefer is a great probiotic. You may not like the taste, but a little stevia or honey helps. It has more active cultures than yogurt.
You can buy it in specialty grocers or order kiefer starter online. Then you can make your own. It’s super easy, just add milk.
do a search online to get more information.

If you get probiotics be sure that they are enteric coated so they make it to the intestines. They work on the small and large intestines. If they are not enteric coated they will be destroyed in the stomach acid and never reach the intestines. To learn about probiotics go to http://www.dr.natura.com, click on to the first site, when the hompage comes up on the top “products” then on the left side click on to “floraprotect”. This section tells you everything you should know about probiotics. I hope this helps. Good Luck! Oh, and I use their products – they are fantastic!

Probiotics (acidophilus) work on the lower intestine. They increase the biacteria needed to break down food. Unfortunately the best way to find the best probiotics for you is to use your own food factory.

I use Garden of Life’s Primal Defense Ultra Probiotic Formula. I like this one since it comes from a great company, you take it only once a day, and it is made with the abundance of beneficial bacteria. Probiotics support the healthy bacteria and pH balance in the gut. It’s important to all of us, but especially if you’ve been antibiotics. You can check out different brands seeing the actual ingredients along with obtaining further information at vitacost.com. There prices are great, also.

Probiotics are safe. Everytime you eat yogurt, it’s full of them. Look for ones that have been clinically proven. Preferably ones that don’t need to be stored in the fridge as it’s easier to store and won’t die so easily.
Protract from Australia is a good brand but don’t know if you can get it from where you are.

Probiotics are the good bacteria we need to protect us from potentially harmful microorganisms that we inhale or ingest. Taking a good probiotic ensures we have sufficient numbers in residence to prevent health problems. There is only one probiotic you should take. That is Natren’s Healthy Trinity. Go to natren.com and find out more. It is THE BEST. Dr. Jan McBarron (Duke and the Doctor) highly recommends this one specifically. Check it out – dukeandthedoctor.com . And yes, they work on through your entire digestive system. Hope this helps.

Very safe unless you have chronic stomach infection.
What you want to look for in a brand is: How many strains of probiotics? What is the concentration of probiotics? The best product I have ever seen contains 15 different strains at a concentration of 35 billion CFU. I learned about this product at http://www.bartenblends.com . If you find something better then go for it, but this is the best I’ve seen and its pretty affordable. It has helped my digestion out tremendously.
