Question by Andy s: Help with cyst and IBS?
I am 15 years old and i had an ultrasound done and on my left ovary it showed that i had a cyst. I also have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and i get frequent bathroom attacks (if you know that i mean)… anyways, it was confirmed i had a cyst around august. Lately the left side of my abdomen has very sharp pain… if i try to bend down or stand (or even sit) up straight, the sharp pain becomes more pronounced. Any suggestions for the pain? Can the cyst grow and become serious? and can this pain also influence my IBS symptoms??

yes cysts can do alot of things to the body. sounds like you might have PCOS. did the doc give you any birth control to control the growth of cysts. if your cyst did burst, this might have caused the pain along with the IBS. research PCOS and you will find tons of info on it.

I have cysts in my ovaries too! My doctor gave me birth control pills. It works I have no more sharp pains. She said cysts come and go. Though some do like attach themselves there then that’s when you need them removed. I doubt it influences your IBS

I also have stomach pain from what could be a cyst & i 2 have IBS.I also have pain when i lean forward or backward. It is sooo uncomfortable. What i do for the pain is apply heat to the area (i have had pain on the right side for a year) & i take tylenol or advil.I also try not lift anything heavy or do anything strenuous..i find that helps alot.Yes cysts can grow & they can be removed by laser treatments. But,some people are lucky & there cyst doesnot grow, but if it is causing you pain you may need to get the cyst removed at some point.I do not think the 2 problems can effect each other because they are 2 different problems.I do not think they effect each other.

Pain from ovarian cysts can be from mild to severe. Cysts can grow and you may also experience other symptoms as well. There are several treatment options and relief from the pain. Here’s a link to a website that is a great source of information about ovarian cysts.

    Good Luck
