Lactobacillus acidophilus is the best. It is natural to the human body. Other unnatural types are benificial, but will be eliminated by your immune system after you stop taking the supplement.
Avoid combination probiotics. They are not as effective because the bacteria fight against each other.

If you are not currently experiencing some flora-depleted health problem, I’d suggest that you may not need probiotic supplements. You could just eat some active culture yogurt or Kefir once or twice per day. Be sure to look for ones relatively low in sugar–or buy the plain variety and add honey, fruit, etc. to your liking. This way you spend less money, nourish your body properly, and replenish your gut flora more gently than supplements would.

I think kefir is the best, but thats just my opinion. Kefir, especially if made from raw, organic milk, will replenish and refresh your digestive system without any preservative or side effects. If you are not familiar with kefir, feel free to email me and I can give you more info and some links to where to order fresh kefir grains so you can make your own. Happy cleansing!

Truth be told, any answer given here will just be personal opinion (I can give you my opinion if you’d like). There are many higher quality companies out there that are readily available and well priced… just make sure the company has a good rating with either the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or USP (U.S. Pharmacopoeia), as those are the main quality assurance organizations (USP is for the U.S., GMP is for the U.S. and worldwide).
That being said, many better colon cleansers also have probiotics in them. If yours doesn’t, that doesn’t mean it’s bad, it just focuses on the cleansing. If that’s the case, I would definitely look for a probiotic complex that’s at least 5-10 billion viable organisms. More may have a better impact long-term, but they also might give you looser stools right off the bat (which go away soon).
As a side note, after you’ve got enough good bacteria built up (typically 1 or 2 bottles of a high quantity probiotic should be enough to replenish it), it is most beneficial to use a daily probiotic to keep things healthy in your intestinal tract… 1-2 billion organisms is more than enough for maintenance for most people. Good luck!
