When I take antibiotics I get a really upset stomach, which I was told is because the antibiotics also kill the ‘friendly bacteria’ in the gut.
Is it worth taking probiotics to try to replace the friendly bacteria? Or will the antibiotics just kill them too?
Thanks

Wait until you come off the antibiotics then build up your good bacteria again with yogurts or probiotics

I found they help me :)
I normally get thrush after taking antibiotics but I took probiotic vitamins while I was taking fluoxacillin, amoxicillin and metrodizanole…..No thrush! :)
There’s lots of info available online- http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/digestiv…

it is definitely worth taking them while antibiotics will be doing there job the coated pills will be saving the friendly bacterias and then just as they start growing till then the work of antibiotics will be over also the antibiotics get absorbed in the blood stream but our dear friends remain still in our colon (where they r supposed to be) and doing there own bit of work!!
so it is worth taking pills of probiotics if u r taking antibiotics for long enough they r made to help you and manufactured in the way that they r not destroyed fully !!

I don’t see any harm in taking probiotics the antibiotics cant kill off them all, if it works ok, if it doesn’t then maybe you are having an allergic reaction to the antibiotics, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether you should have a different antibiotic

It will do no harm. But the pro bacteria will be killed as well.
Despite the idea that they should do good. there is no evidence that they work.. enjoy.

I reckon the antibiotics would just kill off the probiotic ones too, so anytime I get antibiotics I wait till the end of the course then take live yogurts to replace the goodies that got killed off.
